Film Soundtrack to a Coup d’État

Add to my calendar

An evening of jazz, politics and decolonisation.

The film recounts a little-known episode in 1961 when Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach protested to the UN against the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, revealing a geopolitical confrontation over the Congo.

The United States then sent Louis Armstrong as "Jazz Ambassador" to divert attention from a CIA-backed coup.

All this is supported by an exceptional soundtrack featuring some of the greatest names in jazz.
