Five days to discover the flavours of the Alps
This roadtrip guides you from producer to producer, from the orchards of the Haute-Durance to the vineyards of the Avance valley, from the mountain pastures of Dévoluy and Queyras to the hedged farmland of Champsaur. In just a few days, you’ll discover all the riches of the Alpine terroir : meats, cured meats, market gardening, cheeses, fruits, wines, beers, liqueurs… all along an itinerary through enchanting landscapes.
Day 1
Sisteron → Buëch Valley
This roadtrip begins in a land of scents and flavors, where the gentle pace of life blends with outdoor activities, cultural visits or simply idleness. From Sisteron, a town steeped in history, to the Buëch valley, home to lavender and aromatic plants such as mint and thyme, moments of rejuvenation are guaranteed.
Day 2
Buëch Valley → Dévoluy
Head for Dévoluy to discover an authentic mineral territory full of natural surprises. Its caves, the
Day 3
Dévoluy → Champsaur → Gapençais
The Dévoluy gives way to the Champsaur valley, at the gateway to the Écrins National Park, for an invitation to “slow travel”, with its salted meats and other local specialities such as tourtons, oreilles d’âne and tommes. To wander through the narrow streets of Gap, you’ll need to take the Manse or Bayard passes.
Day 4
Gapençais → Avance Valley
After the old-world charm of Gap’s historic center, the Avance valley takes center stage in this stopover, located in the southern Hautes-Alpes between the Durance valley, Serre-Ponçon lake and Gap. Discover IGP Hautes-Alpes wines, whose endemic grape variety is Mollard, and Haute-Durance apples, with the beautiful Golden.
Day 5
Avance Valley → Queyras
The Queyras valley is a fabulous open-air playground, with a myriad of villages boasting an exceptional architectural heritage. There’s plenty to wander around: the fountains, the polychrome sundials, the workshops of woodworkers and cabinetmakers who perpetuate ancestral skills with wood. And, of course, the unspoilt natural surroundings. Don’t miss the cheeses, especially the soon-to-be PDO-labeled Bleu du Queyras.
